Local Attractions

Ithaca's Beauty The Statler is an ideal starting point to walk the Cornell campus. Attractions within an easy stroll include the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, McGraw Tower, the Fall Creek Gorge, and Sage Chapel, among many others.

The university's Center for Theatre Arts presents theatre and dance productions in which students perform alongside professionals. Leading orchestras and renowned soloists perform at Bailey Hall. Other entertainers, including nationally recognized touring bands and comedians, perform on campus.

The campus has more than thirty outdoor tennis courts, an eighteen-hole golf course designed by Cornell alumnus Robert Trent Jones, two swimming pools, squash courts, indoor and outdoor tracks, an equestrian center, the largest indoor rock-climbing wall on the East Coast, fitness clubs, and gymnasiums. Explore the gorges and waterfalls that cut through campus. Experience the full array of cultural and athletic events that take place on campus throughout the year (Cornell Calendar of Events).

Ithaca offers historic buildings and districts, many ethnic restaurants, art film and first-run cinemas, and assorted local bookstores, art galleries, and craft and specialty shops. Two public parks adjoin Cayuga Lake's southern basin. Reliable public transportation links all.

A short distance away is the Finger Lakes National Forest. Buttermilk Falls, Robert H. Treman, and Taughannock Falls state parks all provide picnic spots and trails, scenic views, glens, waterfalls, cross-country skiing, and swimming. Watkins Glen at the southern end of Seneca Lake is noted for its trails, waterfalls, and auto racing. Nearby Greek Peak offers downhill and cross-country skiing. Wineries dot the western edge of Cayuga Lake.
